Program Overview

Wound Rehabilitation & Management Program

Chronic and post-surgical wounds often stall in healing because standard wound care does not address the underlying physiological barriers — poor circulation, tissue fibrosis, impaired lymphatic function, or compromised integumentary integrity.

This is not routine wound care. This is wound rehabilitation — integrating edema control, tissue protection strategies, mobility restoration, compression support, and patient education to improve healing environments and functional outcomes.

Healing often stalls when swelling interferes with circulation and oxygen delivery to tissues.

This program integrates:

  • edema reduction strategies
  • compression therapy planning
  • manual lymphatic techniques when indicated
  • positioning and elevation training
  • wound-safe mobility progression
  • dressing tolerance support
  • caregiver education for safe home management

This program complements physician-directed wound care and wound center treatment plans while addressing the rehabilitation barriers that often delay closure.

My cardiologist told me he was sending me to a woman that would change my life. Dr. Santiago has truly improved my life with her lymphedema therapy. She also cured my surgical infections with her excellent wound care. My cardiologist says she’s the best professional he has ever seen. I’ve been in her care for 2 1/2 years now with no regrets. She is the most caring and knowledgeable in her field. I wholeheartedly recommend her!

I have been working with physiotherapist Dr. Nilma Santiago since May 2022. She has been a tremendous help with shoulder and knee therapies. She also works with my wife who suffers from lymphedema following cancer treatment. Her expertise also includes laser treatment, and excellent wound care which was completely effective. she is openly personable with a pleasant and welcoming manner. I highly recommend her J. Pennino
