Clinical Indications

When to Refer to IPC

Refer patients when their condition falls outside the effective scope of general outpatient physical therapy.

Lymphedema — Any Stage or Extremity

Post-mastectomy, post-lymphadenectomy, or primary lymphedema with persistent limb swelling or heaviness.

Radiation Fibrosis or Post-Radiation Skin Changes

Tissue changes limiting mobility, causing pain, compromising skin integrity, or affecting wound healing.

Post-Surgical Wound Complications or Functional Decline

Delayed healing, scar tissue restriction, or significant functional loss following complex surgery.

Non-Healing or Chronic Wounds

Wounds stalled in healing phase that require integumentary rehabilitation beyond standard wound care protocols.

Ostomy-Related Complications

Peristomal skin issues, core dysfunction, parastomal hernia risk, or functional return-to-activity goals.

Functional Decline During or After Cancer Treatment

Cancer-related fatigue, deconditioning, neuropathy, or mobility loss requiring structured oncology rehabilitation.
